Karimnagar, formerly known as Elagandula, is a city in Telangana, India, and the district headquarters. Karimnagar is a significant urban agglomeration and the sixth largest city in the state. The Municipal Corporation controls it, and it acts as the district headquarters for the Karimnagar district. It is situated on the banks of the Manair River, which is a tributary of the Godavari.
It is a key educational and health centre for Telangana’s northern districts. It is a large commercial town and is well-known for its agricultural and granite industries, garnering it the moniker “City of Granites.”
The city is linked by road to major cities and towns. State highway 1 also known as Telangana Rajeev Rahadari links with the Hyderabad-Karimnagar-Mancherial Highway coal-belt corridor, State roads 7 and 10, State route 11[30], and National highway 563 which connects Jagtial-Karimnagar-Warangal-Khammam. The Dr. B. R. Ambedkar Bus Stand, located in the city centre, is the third largest bus station in the state of Telangana, behind the bus stations in Hyderabad and Khammam.
